INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL “JUDO STARS” IN STAYKI: SPORT, MEMORY, AND THE LEGACY OF VICTORY

On May 11, 2025, the Olympic Sports Complex in Stayki near Minsk will host the International Festival “Judo Stars,” dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The event unites children’s judo, patriotic education through sport, and meaningful historical lessons that resonate with the younger generation.

Sport and Memory: Honoring the 80th Anniversary of Victory

The 80th anniversary of Victory is more than a historical milestone — it’s a national celebration that brings generations together and reminds us of the courage of those who fought for freedom. Nearly every Belarusian family cherishes memories of the war: stories of grandparents, letters from the front, faded photographs.

As the number of war witnesses dwindles, it’s more important than ever to preserve their memory — including through children’s sports and judo tournaments.

The Judo Stars Festival serves as a living history lesson, teaching young participants about honor, respect, and inner strength. It is a celebration of both athletic achievement and national heritage.

“White Belts” Judo Tournament — First Steps in Sport

One of the key events of the festival is the “White Belts” judo tournament, where children aged 4 to 13 will take their first steps into the world of judo. For many, it will be their first time stepping onto the tatami and experiencing competition.

Every child will receive a commemorative medal — regardless of the result. This supportive atmosphere helps instill confidence, motivation, and a lasting love for sport from the very beginning.

International Judo Stars Tournament — Equal Opportunities to Grow

For more experienced athletes aged 8 to 15, the festival will host the Judo Stars International Tournament. It will be held in two divisions:

  • For beginners with white belts
  • For judokas with colored belts

This format ensures fair competition and safe, productive participation at every skill level.
The Judo Stars League is more than just a series of matches — it’s a development platform where children’s judo becomes a pathway to discipline, growth, and striving for excellence.

Judo as a Path to Respect, Discipline, and the Spirit of Victory

The judo festival in Stayki is not just a sports event — it’s a cultural and social initiative aimed at combining sport, history, and patriotic values.
Here, children learn to respect their elders, value hard work, and understand the meaning behind the Victory Day celebration.

Organizers emphasize that children’s judo helps develop not only physical strength but also strong moral values. Through competition, young athletes connect with their country’s history and learn to carry forward its proud traditions.
